Dr. Claudia Soto is one of the seven General Surgeon currently working at Quinte Health in Belleville, ON. She is leading the NSQIP (National Surgical Quality Improvement Program) at Belleville General Hospital and had been recipient of an award for best player on this roll. She completed her general surgery training at the University of Ottawa in 2014, and after working several locums throughout Ontario she established her practice in Parry Sound in the spring of 2015. She was the first female general surgeon hired by West Parry Sound Health Centre (WPSHC). During her time in Rural Surgery she worked with the hospital to develop the Breast Clinic, creating a fast-tracking unit for patients with breast disease in the Parry Sound area and pioneering Oncoplastic surgery as well as developing her expertise in Laparoscopic hernia surgery and abdominal wall reconstruction. Overall, as a general surgeon she specializes in endoscopy and surgeries involving different intra- and extra-abdominal organs and systems.
Dr. Soto completed medical school in 2004 at Universidad Nacional de Colombia. She worked as a general practitioner in 2005 and moved in Ottawa in 2006. During 2007 and 2008 she validated her medical career in Canada while working as a volunteer researcher at the University of Ottawa with the minimally invasive surgery (MIS)/colorectal research group. In 2009 she began the General Surgery Residency Program at the University of Ottawa and graduated in 2014.
As a community surgeon in Quinte area, Dr. Soto works at Trenton Memorial Hospital as well as Prince Edward County Memorial. She has a special interest in laparoscopic surgery, cancer cases and rural surgery.
