General Surgery
General surgery is a subspecialty of surgery that focuses on management of diseases of the abdomen and it’s contents, including the digestive tract (esophagus, stomach, small bowel, colon), the contents of the pelvis, the endocrine system, and the breast skin and soft tissue. General surgery may include pediatric surgery, trauma and burns, transplants, and surgical oncology. A general surgeon’s practice may vary depending on whether they work in an academic hospital or in a rural centre.
